Overview
The StarTech MPO12PL5M is a high-density multi-fiber optic cable designed for high-speed data center interconnects and backbone installations. This 5-meter (16.4 ft) cable features MPO (Multi-fiber Push-On) female connectors on both ends, housing 12 individual fibers within a single compact jacket. It is a critical component for establishing 40Gbps (40GBASE-SR4) and 100Gbps (100GBASE-SR10/SR4) links between high-density switches, routers, and fiber patch panels.
Engineered with Laser-Optimized Multimode Fiber (LOMMF) OM3 grade, this cable is optimized for 850nm VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) sources. It utilizes Method A (Straight-Through) polarity, which is essential for maintaining the correct transmit-to-receive mapping in specific network architectures. The compact 3.0mm cable diameter significantly reduces cable bulk in high-density racks compared to traditional duplex fiber patches, improving airflow and cooling efficiency.
The cable is housed in an Aqua-colored, LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) rated jacket. In the event of extreme heat or fire, the LSZH material emits limited smoke and no toxic halide gases, making it compliant with strict building codes and safety regulations for poorly ventilated areas or sensitive data center environments.
