Overview:

The Intellinet 510493 is a Fast Ethernet WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) bi-directional media converter, designed to convert 10/100Base-TX copper Ethernet to 100Base-FX fiber optic signals over a single strand of single-mode fiber . It is used by network engineers and system integrators to extend Ethernet networks over distances up to 40 kilometers (24.9 miles) without installing a second fiber cable .

This converter solves connectivity challenges by enabling long-distance building-to-building links and connecting remote workgroups to a central network . Its key technical feature is WDM technology, which allows simultaneous data transmission and reception on separate wavelengths (RX 1550nm, TX 1310nm) over a single fiber strand, effectively doubling the capacity of existing fiber or allowing the use of cheaper simplex cables .
