Overview

The APC AP4450A is a rack‑mount automatic transfer switch (ATS) engineered to maintain AC service continuity for single‑corded IT loads by automatically switching between two redundant AC sources. It’s deployed by data center engineers and infrastructure teams in telecom closets, server racks, and network cabinets where uninterrupted AC supply and controlled source switchover are required.

This ATS supports dual AC inputs at 100 V to 120 V AC with a continuous rated current of 15 A, corresponding to a load capacity of approximately 1440 VA. The device interfaces with redundant power sources — such as separate UPS outputs or UPS and utility mains — and transitions loads between them with minimal disruption.

Physically, the AP4450A occupies 1U of rack space in a 19‑inch enclosure and includes ten NEMA 5‑15R switched outlets fed by dual NEMA 5‑15P inputs. The horizontal mount configuration enables placement above or below server equipment in standard racks.

Remote management and configuration are enabled via a field‑replaceable network management card (NMC3), allowing integration with SNMP, CLI, and APC’s monitoring platforms. Status indicators and control interfaces support automated monitoring and logging of switchover events and environmental conditions.

The unit does not generate power and is not a UPS; it performs source switching only and requires at least one live AC source to sustain connected loads. Use of this ATS is common where UPS redundancy or mains‑to‑UPS switchover is part of a high‑availability power architecture.
