Overview

APC AP8865 is a metered vertical rack power distribution unit (PDU) intended to deliver controlled AC power to servers, storage, and networking assets in structured IT racks. It is deployed by data center and infrastructure teams where consolidated power distribution and real‑time load visibility are required to balance circuits and minimize overload risk. AP8865 addresses the need for centralized distribution with usage insight in high‑density environments.

The unit is designed for 208 V AC three‑phase systems with a 30 A supply rating and a total power capacity of approximately 8.6 kW. Input is provided via a NEMA L21‑30P plug with an ~1.8 m power cord. Output receptacles include 36 IEC 60320 C13, six IEC 60320 C19, and two NEMA 5‑20R outlets for mixed equipment compatibility. Built‑in metering provides instantaneous and cumulative measurements including volts, amps, kW, and kWh.

AP8865 occupies a 0U (zero‑U) vertical mounting position along the side of 19″ racks, conserving usable rack units for IT gear. Its form factor is suited for enterprise, colocation, and data center cabinets where space is limited but power distribution density is high.

Management and monitoring interfaces support secure remote access protocols such as SNMP, HTTP, and CLI via an integrated network management card. A local LCD provides live readings of electrical parameters for technicians working at the rack. Alarm thresholds for load conditions can be defined to prevent circuit overloads.

Provisions include locking IEC receptacles to prevent accidental disconnects when paired with locking power cords, historical log memory for usage planning, and compatibility with external environmental sensors for temperature/humidity monitoring (sensor sold separately).

AP8865 is designed for indoor, conditioned IT environments and is not suited for outdoor, wet, or unprotected locations without appropriate enclosures. Deployed power infrastructure must provide compatible three‑phase feeds to realize its full load capacity.
