Overview
The APC SMT1500RMI2UC is a rack-mounted uninterruptible power supply designed to provide battery-backed power and voltage stabilization for rack-based IT equipment operating in 220–240V electrical environments. It is typically deployed by network administrators and infrastructure engineers protecting servers, storage arrays, firewall appliances, and switching platforms from utility outages and voltage instability. The UPS maintains stable AC output during power disturbances and provides runtime to support graceful shutdown procedures during extended power loss events.
This model delivers 1500VA / 1000W output capacity using a line-interactive topology with pure sine wave output. The architecture supports modern IT equipment equipped with active power factor corrected power supplies commonly used in servers and networking hardware. Automatic Voltage Regulation stabilizes incoming power without switching to battery during minor voltage fluctuations, which reduces unnecessary battery cycling and extends battery lifespan. The UPS operates with 230V nominal input and output voltage and connects to facility power using an IEC C14 input connector.
Power distribution is provided through four IEC C13 output receptacles with additional IEC jumper connections for equipment connectivity. These outlets support common rack equipment such as servers, switches, and network appliances that use IEC power cords. The UPS includes surge suppression and filtering to protect connected infrastructure from voltage spikes, brownouts, and electrical noise commonly encountered in building power systems.
The unit is designed for installation in standard 19-inch equipment racks, occupying 2U of rack space. This footprint allows deployment in branch infrastructure racks, IDF network closets, and small data center cabinets where reliable power protection is required but rack space must remain efficient. Typical installations include racks supporting a virtualization host, access switches, and firewall infrastructure requiring several minutes of runtime to maintain operational continuity or execute automated shutdown procedures.
Operational management is provided through a front LCD status panel and communication interfaces including USB and serial connectivity. The UPS also includes a SmartSlot expansion interface that supports optional network management cards, enabling remote monitoring, alerting, and automated shutdown integration with server infrastructure management systems. In addition, SmartConnect connectivity allows cloud-based UPS monitoring and remote diagnostics.
This UPS is not designed for high-density server racks or environments requiring continuous double-conversion power conditioning. Deployments requiring multi-kilowatt protection, extended battery runtime systems, or facility-level electrical redundancy typically rely on larger online UPS platforms.
