Overview

The APC SMX040 is a battery pack extension cable designed for use with APC Smart-UPS X series external battery packs. It allows IT engineers and infrastructure teams to extend the physical distance between the UPS unit and its external battery modules while maintaining proper DC battery connectivity. This accessory is typically deployed in rack environments where battery packs cannot be mounted immediately adjacent to the UPS due to cabinet layout or space constraints.

The cable is designed to connect Smart-UPS X external battery packs (XLBP units) that use VRLA battery systems. It enables flexible battery placement without modifying the UPS electrical configuration, ensuring the UPS still detects and manages the external batteries correctly through its internal battery monitoring system.

With a 1.219 m (1219 mm) cable length, the SMX040 provides sufficient reach for most rack and tower deployments where external battery packs are installed on separate rack shelves or in adjacent cabinets. This helps simplify rack cable routing and improves installation flexibility in dense server racks or telecom cabinets.

Physically, the cable assembly is compact and lightweight, using dedicated VRLA battery connectors designed for Smart-UPS X battery expansion ports. It is supplied as a UPS accessory and requires no additional configuration once connected between the UPS and the external battery pack.

This cable is not a power distribution cable and does not provide AC output. It is strictly intended for DC battery connection between a Smart-UPS X UPS and its compatible external battery modules.
