Overview :

The APC SMX1000I is a line-interactive uninterruptible power supply designed to provide regulated 230V power and battery backup for rack-mounted and standalone IT infrastructure. It is typically deployed by network administrators and infrastructure engineers protecting servers, storage devices, routers, and switching equipment where utility power reliability cannot be guaranteed. The UPS maintains equipment uptime during outages while providing voltage regulation to correct under-voltage and over-voltage conditions that could disrupt sensitive electronics.

The unit delivers 1000VA / 800W of output capacity with a pure sine-wave output waveform compatible with modern switching power supplies and active power factor correction used in enterprise servers and networking platforms. It operates within a 230V single-phase electrical environment and connects to upstream power through an IEC C14 input connector. Eight IEC C13 battery-backed outlets support rack devices while two additional IEC jumper connections allow integration of external battery packs for extended runtime deployments.

The SMX1000I is built as a rack/tower convertible platform occupying 2U of rack space in standard 19-inch cabinets. This form factor allows flexible deployment in IDF closets, edge computing cabinets, branch server racks, or small data center environments where space constraints limit the use of larger UPS platforms. With a rack depth of approximately 19 inches and a weight near 50 lb, the unit is commonly installed in the lower or mid-section of network cabinets to maintain proper rack balance and airflow management.

Integration into infrastructure monitoring environments is supported through USB and serial communication interfaces along with a SmartSlot expansion bay for network management modules. When equipped with a compatible management card, administrators can monitor UPS status, configure alerts, and automate shutdown procedures using SNMP-based monitoring systems or centralized infrastructure management platforms.

A common deployment example is a network rack supporting firewall appliances, aggregation switches, and a small virtualization host where brief outages must be bridged long enough to allow controlled shutdown or generator startup. Under full load the UPS typically provides around eight minutes of runtime, while lower loads extend available runtime significantly.

This UPS is not intended for high-density compute racks or environments requiring multi-kilowatt protection. Infrastructure exceeding 800W of protected load or operating on higher-capacity rack circuits typically requires larger rack UPS platforms designed for greater output capacity.
