Eaton 9PXEBM240RTG2 – Extended Battery Module 240V 3U
Overview
The Eaton 9PXEBM240RTG2 is a 240V extended battery module (EBM) designed to increase runtime for compatible Eaton 9PX G2 UPS systems. It is deployed by data center and infrastructure engineers where extended backup duration is required without oversizing the UPS itself. The module provides scalable runtime by adding external battery capacity to an existing UPS installation.
This EBM operates on a 240V DC battery bus and uses sealed valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries. It connects directly to the host UPS via high-current DC connectors and supports daisy-chaining of multiple modules. Up to 12 EBMs can be connected to a single UPS, allowing runtime expansion from minutes to hours depending on load conditions.
The unit is designed for flexible deployment in both rack and tower configurations. It occupies 3U of rack space in standard 19-inch enclosures and includes rail kits for 4-post rack mounting. This makes it suitable for data center racks, network closets, and industrial control cabinets where rack depth and battery weight must be considered during installation.
Integration is native with Eaton 9PX G2 UPS platforms, particularly 8–11 kVA models operating in 208V/230V environments. The module is automatically detected by the UPS, enabling coordinated battery management, charging optimization, and runtime estimation without manual configuration. Battery management is handled by the UPS using predictive charging algorithms to extend battery service life.
In deployment, the EBM is connected to the UPS using the supplied DC cable, forming a unified battery system. Additional modules can be added in sequence to extend runtime for critical loads such as core switches, virtualization hosts, or storage systems where controlled shutdown windows exceed standard UPS battery capacity.
This module is not suitable for standalone operation, as it requires a compatible Eaton UPS to function. It should also not be used with non-compatible UPS platforms or in environments lacking adequate rack depth and structural support due to its weight.
