Overview

The Eaton PDU2430 is a single‑phase, basic power distribution unit designed for IT rack environments requiring straightforward AC distribution. It is primarily deployed by data center engineers, network architects, and facilities teams to aggregate and distribute utility, UPS, or generator power to multiple devices in a standardized rack footprint. Its purpose is to provide reliable 120 V AC power to servers, switches, storage and ancillary network equipment without advanced metering or remote management features.

This PDU supports a 2.9 kW total load at 24 A continuous, delivered through 24 NEMA 5‑15R receptacles from a single NEMA L5‑30P input plug on a 15 ft cord. It is designed around a switchless architecture with dual 15 A branch circuit breakers protecting two banks of outlets, enforcing basic overload protection while avoiding accidental shutdown via a toggle.

Mechanically, the PDU fits into 1U of 19‑inch EIA rack space and has a shallow depth that enables deployment in standard server racks, telecom enclosures, and network cabinets. Its reversible all‑metal housing also supports wall‑mount, workbench, or under‑counter installation, and, with optional brackets, 0U vertical rack mount configurations.

Integration is limited to physical mounting and power infrastructure compatibility; there is no network management or remote monitoring interface. It interoperates with standard UPS and generator power sources that provide single‑phase 120 V services and plugs into typical 30 A receptacles found in technical spaces. Rack depth and cord orientation should be verified against the planned installation rail spacing.

A practical deployment for the PDU2430 is in smaller to mid‑sized server or branch‑office racks feeding homogenous 120 V loads such as edge servers, SAN appliances, and top‑of‑rack switches. Its 24 outlet capacity and shallow profile are suitable where outlet density is needed but advanced metering and control are not required.

This PDU is not appropriate for environments requiring remote power monitoring, outlet‑level metering, redundant AC feeds (A/B power), or integration into PDUs with rack‑level alerts. It also is unsuitable where 208 V or 240 V distribution is mandated by local electrical standards or equipment design.
