Overview

The Eaton N785‑INT‑PLCMM1 is a fixed‑configuration fiber‑to‑Ethernet media converter designed to bridge multimode optical links with copper Ethernet while providing Power over Ethernet (PoE+) to remote devices. Field technicians and network engineers deploy it where standard Ethernet distances (≈100 m) are insufficient and a powered link is required for devices such as IP cameras, access points, VoIP phones, or access control units.

This unit accepts a single multimode fiber connection and converts it to a 10/100/1000 Mbps copper Ethernet link with an integrated PoE+ power supply. The built‑in module supports IEEE 802.3af/at PoE standards and can deliver up to 30 W PoE budget at the RJ‑45 port, enabling installation of powered edge devices without local AC outlets.

Located at network edges, wiring closets, or small aggregation points, the converter extends network reach up to 550 m over OM1/OM2 multimode fiber while supporting full and half‑duplex operation and auto MDI/MDIX on the copper interface. This allows deployment between distant fiber endpoints and local copper networks.

The device integrates with standard rack or wall‑mount infrastructures using its compact metal housing. Power is provided via an international external AC adapter (100–240 VAC), and link/activity LEDs on the front panel give quick visual status of both fiber and copper ports.

In a practical branch deployment, N785‑INT‑PLCMM1 can be placed in an intermediate comms cabinet to deliver both data and PoE power to a remote camera cluster fed by multimode fiber from a core switch. Where fiber infrastructure already exists but powering edge devices is needed without additional local power circuits, this converter reduces cabling complexity.

This converter is not suited for environments requiring managed switching features (VLANs, QoS), high‑availability stacking, or optical budgets beyond ~550 m multimode; in those cases, managed switches or dedicated long‑reach fiber extenders are more appropriate.
