Lenovo 4M27A65419 – FC SAN Switch Activation
Overview
The Lenovo 4M27A65419 is a Ports on Demand (POD) activation license and transceiver bundle designed specifically for the ThinkSystem DB720S Gen 7 Fibre Channel SAN Switch. As data center storage requirements scale, this upgrade provides a non-disruptive path to increase port density. The bundle activates 24 additional SFP+ ports on the switch chassis, transitioning the hardware from its base configuration to a higher port count to support expanding flash-based storage arrays and NVMe over Fibre Channel (FC-NVMe) workloads.
This bundle includes 24 genuine Lenovo 64Gb Fibre Channel Short Wavelength (SWL) SFP+ transceivers. These optics are engineered for high-speed, low-latency data transmission over multimode fiber, supporting auto-sensing speeds of 64Gb, 32Gb, and 16Gb to maintain compatibility with legacy infrastructure. The activation is managed via Brocade Fabric OS (FOS), allowing for instant capacity increases without the need for additional rack space or power supplies.
Deployment is intended for enterprise-class SAN environments where high-bandwidth connectivity is critical for virtualization and database performance. It is strictly compatible with the ThinkSystem DB720S and should not be used for DB610S or other Gen 6 hardware. Before installation, ensure the switch firmware is updated to the minimum required version to support 64Gb optics and Gen 7 features.
