Oracle 8208432 – 12Gbps SAS-3 I/O Controller Module

Overview :

The Oracle 8208432 is an enterprise-grade 12Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS-3) I/O Controller Module (IOM). This component is a critical field-replaceable unit (FRU) designed for the Oracle Storage Drive Enclosure DE3-24 series, specifically the DE3-24C and DE3-24P models.

The primary function of this module is to provide the high-speed data path between the ZFS Storage Appliance controllers and the disk shelf’s drive backplane. It manages SAS fabric connectivity, ensuring high availability through redundant IOM configurations (IOM 0 and IOM 1).

This module supports hot-swapping, allowing for maintenance and replacement without powering down the entire storage array. It is strictly compatible with Oracle DE3-24 disk shelves; it should not be attempted for use in legacy DE2 or other non-certified enclosures, as firmware and physical backplane signaling are platform-specific.
