Overview :
The QNAP QGD-1600-8G-US is the world’s first “Guardian” series smart edge switch, integrating a fully functional Layer 2 managed switch with a QTS-powered NAS. Equipped with an Intel Celeron J4115 quad-core processor and 8GB of RAM, this 1U rackmount device dual-boots to manage both network traffic and storage-based applications such as IP surveillance, virtualization, and web hosting.
Technically, the hardware features 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports, including four 60-watt PoE++ ports and twelve 30-watt PoE+ ports, delivering a total power budget of 370W. This architecture solves the deployment complexity of edge environments by combining a high-power PoE switch, a network recorder (NVR), and a router into a single chassis, reducing the physical footprint in retail, SME, and smart classroom settings.
Deployment is intended for the network edge, where the unit can power high-performance Wi-Fi 6 access points or 4K PTZ cameras while simultaneously running QVR Pro for recording. It features two 2.5-inch SATA drive bays and two PCIe slots, allowing for the addition of 10GbE network cards or QM2 cards for M.2 SSD caching to further accelerate application performance.
Do not exceed the 370W total PoE budget when connecting high-draw devices across all 16 ports. While the unit supports virtualization, it is not intended for high-density VM hosting; for optimal performance, utilize the PCIe slots to expand memory or networking for specific virtualized workloads.
