Overview

The QNAP QSW-M7308R-4X-US is a high-density, cost-optimized 100GbE L3 Lite managed switch designed for enterprise backbone networks and high-performance computing. Featuring four 100GbE QSFP28 ports and eight 25GbE SFP28 ports, it offers a massive 1200Gbps switching capacity. This half-width rackmount unit is specifically engineered to eliminate bandwidth bottlenecks in server rooms, facilitating ultra-fast data transmission for AI training clusters, 4K/8K video editing, and large-scale virtualization.

Technically, the switch is powered by a Marvell Armada CPU and Prestera switch chip, supporting advanced Layer 2 and L3 Lite features including static routing, MC-LAG for high availability, and RDMA-ready lossless Ethernet. The 100GbE ports are backward compatible with 40GbE and support breakout cables to further expand connectivity to 25GbE sub-ports. This solves the problem of high-speed infrastructure scaling in space-constrained environments, as two units can be mounted side-by-side in a single 1U rack space.

Deployment is intended for medium-to-large enterprise IT environments requiring a reliable, low-latency backbone. It features the user-friendly QSS Pro management interface and supports AMIZcloud for centralized remote monitoring across multiple sites. With Precision Time Protocol (PTP) support, it is also optimized for AVoIP applications, ensuring synchronized, high-quality audiovisual transmission.

Do not use this switch in environments with poor airflow, as the high-speed 100GbE transceivers generate significant heat and rely on the internal PWM fans for stability. Ensure all connected DAC cables or transceivers are compatible with QSFP28/SFP28 standards to maintain rated 100G/25G throughput and avoid link errors.
