The StarTech DK30A2DH is a versatile dual-video docking station designed to transform a USB 3.0 (USB-A) equipped laptop into a full-scale Ultra HD workstation. It is utilized by business professionals, educators, and office workers who use legacy laptops or modern machines that require a wide array of USB-A peripheral connections alongside high-resolution displays.

Technically, the dock is powered by the DisplayLink DL-6950 chipset, which allows it to overcome the video limitations of standard USB 3.0 ports. It features two “Video Areas,” each offering a choice between a DisplayPort and an HDMI port. This flexibility allows users to connect two 4K 60Hz monitors in any combination (2x HDMI, 2x DisplayPort, or one of each). The dock also acts as a high-density peripheral hub, offering six USB 3.0 (5Gbps) Type-A ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port for reliable wired networking, and separate 3.5mm audio and microphone jacks.

Deployment is highly efficient for corporate environments with “bring your own device” (BYOD) policies. Because it connects via a standard USB-A cable, it is universally compatible with virtually any laptop running Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS. The dock features a compact, upright design to save desk space and includes a 3.3ft (1m) host cable. While it provides expansive connectivity, users should note that as a USB-A dock, it does not provide Power Delivery (PD) to charge the host laptop, so the laptop’s original power adapter is still required.
