StarTech I23-SERIAL-ETHERNET – 1-Port RS232 Serial to Ethernet IP Converter
Overview :
The StarTech I23-SERIAL-ETHERNET is a compact serial-to-IP device server designed to provide remote access and control of RS232 serial peripherals over a local area network (LAN) or the internet. It solves the problem of distance limitations associated with standard serial cabling by encapsulating serial data into IP packets, allowing legacy equipment to be managed from anywhere on the network as if it were connected directly to a local COM port.
This device server features a single DB9 serial port and a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port. It supports various operating modes, including Virtual COM, which allows existing software applications to communicate with the remote serial device without modification. It also supports TCP/UDP Server/Client modes for raw data transmission. The unit is built with a rugged, small-form-factor housing, making it suitable for discreet installation in tight spaces or mounting on surfaces using the integrated brackets.
Optimized for industrial automation, security systems, and point-of-sale (POS) environments, the I23-SERIAL-ETHERNET allows for the remote management of PLCs, CNC machines, sensors, and serial consoles. It is not recommended for high-bandwidth video or audio streaming over serial, nor for synchronous serial protocols, as it is strictly designed for asynchronous RS232 communication.
