Overview :

The StarTech SATERASER4 is an enterprise-grade, standalone hardware solution designed for the secure, high-volume sanitization of 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA hard drives (HDD) and solid-state drives (SSD). Operating independently of a host computer, this 4-bay unit allows IT departments and data centers to simultaneously erase up to four drives, ensuring sensitive information is permanently unrecoverable before hardware disposal, repurposing, or return.

Technically, the device supports a wide array of sanitization protocols to meet various regulatory and military compliance standards. It features three “Erase” modes: Quick Erase, Full Erase (Single Pass), and DoD Erase (3-Pass), which follows the US Department of Defense 5220.22-M standard. Additionally, it supports Secure Erase, a hardware-level command built into most modern SATA drives that wipes all data, including hidden sectors and reallocated blocks, at maximum interface speeds.

The SATERASER4 is equipped with an integrated LCD interface and four tactile buttons for easy navigation of settings and real-time monitoring of erase progress. It also features a built-in thermal management system with a quiet cooling fan to prevent drive overheating during long-duration multi-pass wipes. An integrated serial printer port (RS-232) allows users to connect a printer to generate physical “Erase Labels” or certificates for audit logs and compliance documentation.
