Overview
The StarTech ST12MHDLAN4K is a 4K HDMI over IP extender kit designed for scalable AV distribution across IP networks in enterprise, education, and digital signage environments. It enables transmission of HDMI video over standard Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure, eliminating distance limitations of traditional HDMI cabling.
The system supports up to 4K resolution at 30Hz using H.264 compression and delivers video over Cat5e/Cat6 networks with distances up to 100 meters per link. It supports point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and video wall deployments, allowing flexible scaling across multiple displays and sources.
Deployment is typical in rack-integrated AV systems, control rooms, campuses, and retail signage where centralized video distribution is required. It requires a managed network with IGMP snooping for multicast operation and is not suitable for ultra-low latency applications or direct HDMI-only environments without IP switching infrastructure.
