TRENDnet TEG-MGBS80 SFP 1000Base-LX SMF Transceiver
Overview :
The TRENDnet TEG-MGBS80 is a high-performance Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) transceiver module designed for long-distance fiber optic network extensions. It is engineered for reliability in enterprise and data networking environments that require stable, high-speed connectivity over significant distances. The primary function of this module is to convert a Gigabit Ethernet electrical signal into an optical signal, enabling communication over single-mode fiber optic cable up to 80 kilometers (49.7 miles). This makes it an ideal solution for connecting buildings across a large campus, linking metropolitan area networks (MANs), or for any application where standard copper cabling is insufficient. At its core, the TEG-MGBS80 leverages 1550nm wavelength technology to achieve its extended reach. This specific wavelength is well-suited for single-mode fiber, minimizing signal degradation and ensuring data integrity over the entire 80 km distance. The module supports a data rate of up to 1.25 Gbps, making it fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3z Gigabit Ethernet standard and suitable for 1G Fiber Channel applications. This ensures seamless integration into existing Gigabit network infrastructures without compromising performance. Designed for operational simplicity and broad compatibility, the TEG-MGBS80 features a hot-pluggable form factor that allows it to be installed or removed from a switch’s SFP slot without powering down the device. This minimizes network disruption during maintenance or upgrades. The module utilizes a standard duplex LC connector for fiber optic cable termination and is built to be Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) compliant, ensuring interoperability with SFP slots on a wide range of networking equipment from various manufacturers, not just TRENDnet.
