HPE BladeSystem c-Class 10Gb SFP+ LR Transceiver
Overview
This module is an SFP+ (Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus) optical transceiver designed to deliver reliable, high-speed 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for HPE BladeSystem c-Class enclosures and compatible networking equipment. Its primary role is to extend network reach over long distances within a data center or across a campus backbone, solving the critical problem of connecting servers and switches that are physically separated beyond the limits of standard copper or short-range optical cabling. It enables robust, long-haul communication links essential for modern distributed applications and data replication. The transceiver operates over standard single-mode fiber (SMF) optic cables, utilizing a 1310nm laser wavelength to transmit data reliably up to 10 kilometers (approximately 6.2 miles). This “Long Range” (LR) capability is crucial for connecting blade servers to core network switches or for inter-switch links in large-scale environments. By adhering to the 10GBASE-LR standard, it ensures interoperability and consistent performance, while its low power consumption of less than 1 watt helps manage energy costs and thermal load within high-density blade chassis. Engineered for seamless integration, this hot-pluggable module can be installed or replaced without powering down the host system, ensuring maximum uptime and operational flexibility. Its compact SFP+ form factor allows for high port density, enabling scalable network designs. Management and monitoring are handled through the host device’s command-line interface (CLI) or network management platform, with Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM) support providing real-time insights into the transceiver’s operational status, including temperature, laser power, and signal strength.
