Overview :

The APC AP7516 is a basic rack‑mountable power distribution unit (PDU) engineered for delivering high‑density AC power distribution in equipment racks and cabinets. IT infrastructure teams and data center technicians deploy this unit to distribute branch feed power to multiple high‑current loads, such as servers, storage arrays, networking devices, and industrial IT equipment, without active monitoring or management features. Its purpose is to organize and deliver reliable AC power where needed in rack environments.

This PDU supports a 14.4 kW power capacity at 208 V AC with a maximum current rating of 40 A per phase. It features a single input branch whip connection that feeds through six IEC 60320 C19 receptacles, allowing power delivery to a range of higher‑amp IT gear. Overload and short‑circuit protection is provided via resettable circuit breakers integrated in the design to help with recovery after transient faults.

Physically, the unit occupies a 1U horizontal rack space in standard 19″ telecommunication cabinets or server racks, conserving vertical space while providing a dense outlet arrangement. A fixed cord (approximately 8 ft / 2.4 m) terminates in a Hubbell CS8365C input connector compatible with typical 208 V 3‑phase branch feeds in commercial electrical infrastructure.

There are no onboard power management or network monitoring features; this PDU is intended for straightforward distribution of AC power once feed capacity is confirmed. It integrates with rack mounts and horizontal PDUs without requiring additional power management platforms, making it suitable for deployments where simple power distribution suffices.

In real deployments, the AP7516 is often used to provide multiple high‑current receptacles for server and network loads in data center rows, telecommunication closets, and enterprise rack deployments. It is suited for environments requiring efficient use of limited rack U space and a modest number of high‑current outlets.

This device should not be used where intelligent power monitoring, outlet‑level metering, or remote management is required; in such cases managed or metered PDUs are appropriate alternatives.
