Overview
The APC AP7901B is a switched rack power distribution unit that enables remote outlet control and sequencing for rack?mounted IT infrastructure. IT operations, network engineers, and data center teams deploy this PDU to manage and cycle individual outlets without physical access to equipment. Its design allows controlled power?off and power?on of connected devices to resolve hung systems, enforce startup order, and support operational recovery workflows.
Configured for 100?120?V AC input, the AP7901B distributes power to individually controlled switched outlets suitable for rack servers, network switches, firewalls, and appliances. Individual outlet control allows administrators to isolate loads or reboot devices remotely via secure management interfaces. Local metering displays aggregate current draw, helping teams monitor load utilization and avoid overloads on the PDU circuit.
The unit occupies 1U of horizontal rackmount space, compatible with standard 19?inch cabinets in server rooms, IDF closets, and edge racks. Its horizontal design preserves vertical space while providing eight outlet control points. Power sequencing and user?configurable delays help manage inrush current and orderly device starts across dependent systems.
Management interfaces include Web, SNMP, SSH, and Telnet access, enabling integration with centralized monitoring and automation systems. These interfaces allow scripting of power events, remote alerting, and outage response workflows without requiring physical rack access. Local display elements provide real?time current values for quick status checks during deployment or troubleshooting.
This PDU does not include uninterruptible power or battery backup features and is not designed to sustain equipment through utility outages. Where continuity of power is required, an upstream UPS must be deployed. The AP7901B is not suitable as a UPS replacement and does not condition power; its function is limited to managed distribution and outlet control.
