Overview
The APC AP7800B is a switched power distribution unit engineered for rack‑mounted IT power control. IT infrastructure teams deploy this PDU where remote outlet control and sequencing are required to reset equipment, manage inrush currents, and enforce startup orders without physical access to the rack. As a switched PDU, it provides administrators the ability to individually power cycle connected loads over network management interfaces.
Configured for 100–120 V AC input, the AP7800B delivers power to eight individually controlled NEMA 5‑15R receptacles. Each outlet can be turned on or off independently via secure remote interfaces, helping resolve locked devices or sequence dependent equipment start‑ups on reboot. Load metering at the unit level allows visibility into overall current draw, aiding in preventing circuit overloads in branch, enterprise, and colo rack deployments.
The PDU occupies a horizontal 1U rackmount footprint compatible with standard 19‑inch cabinets used in server rooms, network closets, and edge infrastructure racks. Its compact design preserves valuable vertical space while delivering per‑outlet power control for connected servers, switches, firewalls, and appliances. Rack teams benefit from the combination of compact sizing and managed power control when troubleshooting remotely or enforcing orderly device resets.
Management capabilities include Web and SNMP access, CLI support via SSH/Telnet, and configurable user access controls. These interfaces integrate with monitoring systems that support SNMP traps or SSH scripting, enabling automated workflows for power events. Local display elements provide real‑time current draw feedback at a glance.
The AP7800B does not include battery backup or ride‑through capabilities — it is not a UPS. It should be paired with an upstream uninterruptible power supply if continuity through utility outages is required. This unit is not suitable where power quality conditioning or extended outage support is needed; UPS infrastructure must be added for those requirements.
