Overview
The APC SMT1000RM2UC is a rack-mounted uninterruptible power supply designed to provide battery-backed power protection and voltage regulation for rack-based IT infrastructure. It is commonly deployed by infrastructure administrators supporting network switches, entry-level servers, security appliances, and edge compute equipment that require stable power during electrical disturbances. The unit protects connected equipment from outages, brownouts, voltage fluctuations, and electrical noise that can interrupt IT services or cause system shutdowns.
This UPS delivers 1000VA / 700W output capacity using a line-interactive topology with pure sine wave output. The system includes Automatic Voltage Regulation to correct low- and high-voltage conditions without switching to battery power, helping extend battery lifespan during normal power fluctuations. The UPS operates on a standard 120V input and output configuration and connects to utility power using a NEMA 5-15P input plug while providing six NEMA 5-15R battery-backed outlets for connected equipment.
The unit is designed for installation in standard 19-inch rack environments, occupying 2U of rack space. This form factor allows the UPS to fit into IDF network closets, branch office infrastructure racks, and small data center cabinets where rack space and power protection requirements must be balanced. In these deployments, the UPS typically supports network switches, firewall appliances, virtualization hosts, or storage devices that require runtime to maintain service availability or perform graceful shutdown during outages.
Operational visibility is provided through a front LCD interface and communication ports including USB and serial connections. The system also includes a SmartSlot expansion interface that supports optional network management modules for remote monitoring and automated shutdown integration. These capabilities allow administrators to track load levels, battery status, and power conditions through centralized infrastructure management tools.
A typical deployment includes a branch office rack containing a firewall appliance, a virtualization host, and two access switches. In this configuration, the UPS maintains conditioned AC output during brief utility interruptions and provides several minutes of runtime to allow automated shutdown or failover procedures.
This UPS is not designed for high-density compute racks or installations requiring continuous double-conversion power protection. Environments requiring higher power capacity, extended battery runtime, or online UPS architecture typically deploy larger rack UPS platforms or modular data center UPS systems.
