APC SMTL1000RM2UCNC 1000VA Lithium-Ion Rackmount UPS
Overview
The APC SMTL1000RM2UCNC is a rack-mounted uninterruptible power supply designed to provide battery-backed power protection and voltage stabilization for distributed IT infrastructure. It is typically deployed by network administrators protecting switches, routers, firewall appliances, and entry-level servers located in branch offices, IDF closets, and edge compute cabinets. The UPS maintains stable output power during electrical disturbances and provides runtime to allow automated shutdown or failover procedures during extended power outages.
The system provides 1000VA / 800W output capacity using a line-interactive topology with pure sine wave output. This design ensures compatibility with modern server power supplies that use active power factor correction. Automatic Voltage Regulation corrects voltage fluctuations without switching to battery power, reducing battery wear during normal utility instability. The UPS operates in 120V power environments, connects to facility power using a NEMA 5-15P input plug, and provides six NEMA 5-15R battery-backed outlets for protected equipment.
A key design element of this model is its short-depth rack chassis, allowing installation in shallow network cabinets and wall-mount racks commonly used in branch infrastructure deployments. The 2U form factor fits standard 19-inch rack systems while leaving additional clearance for cable management and rear power connections in space-constrained enclosures. Lithium-ion battery technology significantly reduces maintenance requirements compared with traditional sealed lead-acid batteries and offers a longer service life within the UPS lifecycle.
Operational management is supported through a preinstalled network management card and SmartConnect cloud connectivity. These management interfaces enable remote monitoring, alerting, firmware updates, and coordinated system shutdown across connected servers or network equipment. Administrators can integrate the UPS with centralized infrastructure management platforms used for distributed IT environments.
A common deployment example includes a small edge rack containing a firewall appliance, a PoE access switch, and a network storage system. In this configuration, the UPS provides conditioned AC output and several minutes of runtime to allow safe shutdown procedures when upstream power becomes unavailable.
This UPS is not intended for high-density server racks or environments requiring double-conversion online power protection. Installations requiring multi-kilowatt protection, long-duration runtime expansion, or facility-level power redundancy typically deploy larger rack UPS platforms or modular data center UPS systems.
