APC SMX3000RMLVUS Smart-UPS X 3000VA Rack/Tower Line-Interactive UPS
Overview :
The APC SMX3000RMLVUS is a line-interactive rack/tower uninterruptible power supply (UPS) designed to provide regulated backup power for rack-mounted servers, storage arrays, and network infrastructure. It is typically deployed by data center engineers, network administrators, and IT infrastructure teams who require stable power protection and controlled shutdown capability for critical equipment during utility outages or voltage fluctuations.
This UPS delivers 3000VA / 2700W output capacity with a pure sine wave output, ensuring compatibility with enterprise servers, networking hardware, and active-PFC power supplies. The line-interactive architecture includes Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) that corrects undervoltage and overvoltage conditions without switching to battery power, helping extend battery life and maintain consistent output voltage. The system operates in a 120V single-phase power ecosystem with an input tolerance range of approximately 70–153V AC and connects through a NEMA L5-30P input plug.
The unit provides seven output receptacles consisting of three NEMA 5-15R, three NEMA 5-20R, and one NEMA L5-30R, allowing mixed connection of servers, network switches, and power distribution units within a rack environment. Two switchable outlet groups enable controlled load shedding or staged shutdown of connected devices during extended outages.
In deployment environments, the SMX3000RMLVUS is commonly installed in IDF/MDF racks, branch office server cabinets, and edge compute infrastructure where mid-range UPS capacity is required in a compact footprint. The system occupies 2U of rack space and can also be deployed as a tower UPS using included support feet, offering flexibility for mixed infrastructure environments.
The UPS integrates with the APC management ecosystem through USB and serial communication ports and a SmartSlot expansion interface for optional network management cards. These capabilities allow administrators to monitor UPS health, perform remote shutdown procedures, and integrate power monitoring into centralized infrastructure management platforms.
In practical deployments, the SMX3000RMLVUS is often used to support virtualization hosts, small storage arrays, and network switch stacks within branch offices or edge computing racks. At full load, the system provides approximately 6 minutes of runtime, which is sufficient for controlled shutdown or generator failover operations.
However, environments requiring extended runtime autonomy or multi-kilowatt data center loads should consider modular or online double-conversion UPS systems with external battery banks rather than relying solely on this line-interactive platform.
