Eaton 9PXEBM72RT-L – External Battery Module 72 Cells
Overview
The Eaton 9PXEBM72RT-L is an external battery module designed to extend runtime for Eaton 9PX series UPS systems. IT engineers and data center operators deploy this module to provide additional energy storage, allowing critical rack-mounted servers, storage, and networking equipment to remain operational during extended utility power outages.
The module contains 72 sealed lead-acid (VRLA) batteries configured to match the voltage and current requirements of compatible 9PX UPS units. It supports rapid charging and integrates seamlessly with the UPS’s battery management system, enabling accurate runtime monitoring, automatic battery testing, and coordinated load shutdown when required.
This battery module is designed for deployment in 19-inch rack environments alongside a 2U 9PX UPS. Its 2U rack form factor allows placement within the same rack or adjacent cabinets, making it suitable for IDF/MDF rooms, edge data closets, or small-to-medium data center racks where extended runtime is required.
Integration is fully compatible with Eaton 9PX UPS units, maintaining the UPS’s voltage ecosystem and communication capabilities. The module is monitored through Eaton Intelligent Power Software or the UPS’s built-in display interface, allowing centralized battery management, event logging, and runtime calculation.
In practical deployment, one 9PXEBM72RT-L module can extend UPS runtime for multiple 1U/2U servers and networking devices, providing minutes to hours of backup depending on load. Multiple modules can be added in parallel to further extend runtime for high-availability applications.
This battery module is not suitable for non-9PX UPS models, deployments exceeding the manufacturer’s maximum supported battery string, or environments where rack space is limited to less than 2U.
