Overview

The Eaton OMNIVS1500XL is a line-interactive uninterruptible power supply (UPS) designed for protecting single-phase 120 V IT equipment against power interruptions, brownouts, and surges. It is typically deployed by IT engineers, network administrators, and branch office technicians to ensure short-duration battery backup and stable voltage to servers, switches, and network devices lacking internal redundant power supplies. The device automatically corrects minor voltage fluctuations and provides battery support during outages, allowing orderly shutdowns or brief continued operation.

The UPS delivers 1440 VA / 940 W output, supporting typical branch office servers, edge switches, and small rack-mounted network gear. Internal batteries are hot-swappable, and the device supports additional runtime with optional external battery packs. Transfer time to battery is 6–10 ms, minimizing disruption to connected loads.

Deployment is suitable for standalone tower placement in network closets, branch IT racks (shelf or small cabinet), and edge computing environments. It is not intended for direct 19-inch rack mounting without third-party hardware. The form factor allows easy positioning in small footprint environments where full rack PDUs are unavailable.

Connectivity includes USB (HID) and DB9 serial interfaces for local monitoring and integration with Eaton’s PowerAlert software. Output receptacles include six battery-backed and two surge-only outlets, allowing separation of critical loads from non-essential equipment. The line-interactive design stabilizes voltage without switching to battery unnecessarily, reducing battery wear over time.

A typical deployment example is a branch office rack containing a single server, network switch, and firewall. The UPS provides voltage correction and battery backup for short outages, allowing controlled shutdown during extended power loss.

This device is not suitable for high-density core data center racks, or for environments requiring network-based monitoring and per-outlet metering. For critical infrastructure or high-availability systems, rack-mounted UPS units with redundant internal batteries and network management are recommended.
