Overview

The Eaton SMART1500RM2U is a line‑interactive UPS designed for rack/tower deployments, providing short-duration battery support and voltage regulation. It is used by network engineers and IT infrastructure teams to protect servers, storage devices, and network appliances from power interruptions, brownouts, and surges.

It delivers 1.5 kVA / 1350 W capacity with pure sine-wave output, compatible with devices using active power factor correction (PFC). Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) ensures output remains stable across fluctuating input voltage levels, while battery backup allows controlled shutdowns during outages.

The UPS occupies 2U of 19-inch rack space and can be converted for tower installation. Its compact form factor is suitable for IDF racks, small server racks, edge cabinets, and communication closets, providing protection where space is limited.

Management options include USB and DB9 serial ports, with an accessory slot for optional network management cards. The front LCD panel displays real-time status, including load, battery condition, and runtime, which is critical for operational monitoring during deployments.

A typical deployment would include protecting a small departmental server rack or edge compute cabinet, providing ~13 minutes of runtime at half load (675 W) and ~4.5 minutes at full load (1350 W), sufficient for orderly shutdowns. This UPS is not suited for mission-critical core data center environments requiring extended runtime or parallel redundancy.
