The Eaton N785‑INT‑SC‑MM is a Gigabit multimode fiber‑to‑Ethernet media converter that connects copper Ethernet to multimode fiber links with SC interfaces. It is used by network and infrastructure engineers to extend 10/100/1000Base‑T segments beyond the 100 m copper limit via multimode fiber, enabling remote equipment connectivity in closets, IDFs, campus links, and branch wiring scenarios. This converter addresses link‑distance constraints without requiring managed switches at both ends.

The unit provides a single RJ45 10/100/1000Base‑T copper port and a duplex SC multimode fiber interface operating at an 850 nm wavelength. It auto‑negotiates speed and duplex on the copper side, supports auto‑MDI/MDI‑X, and has six LEDs for real‑time link and activity status. An external international power supply with multiple plug adapters is included for global deployments.

Deployment typically places one converter adjacent to a network switch or router and a matching unit near remote devices, with multimode SC fiber run between them. It supports 50/125 µm fiber up to 550 m and 62.5/125 µm up to 400 m, extending connectivity where backbone fiber is present.

This converter integrates into structured cabling environments and is fully plug‑and‑play, requiring no software or configuration. It is not designed for industrial outdoor locations or harsh environments; for those use cases, choose hardened converters with environmental ratings.
