The Eaton U428F-10M-D3 is a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Active Optical Cable (AOC) designed for long-distance, high-speed USB connectivity in enterprise and data center environments. It is commonly used to connect a USB-A host system (server, workstation, KVM, industrial PC) to a USB-C device such as storage systems, cameras, or peripherals up to 10 meters away.
Built with fiber-optic internal signaling, this cable solves key limitations of copper USB links—especially signal degradation, distance limits, and EMI sensitivity—making it suitable for rack-to-rack or room-to-room USB extension in controlled installations.
It supports up to 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 data transfer, but is strictly a data-only cable (no video alt-mode or charging-focused design). The plenum-rated jacket allows installation in air handling spaces (CMP-rated environments), making it suitable for structured cabling in data centers and enterprise facilities.
Compatibility is limited to systems with USB 3.x Gen 2 support on both ends. It is not backward compatible with USB 2.0/1.1 devices, and directionality (host/device orientation) must be followed during installation.
