Intellinet 510547 – Media Converter
Overview:
The Intellinet 510547 is a Fast Ethernet WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) bi-directional media converter, designed to convert 10/100Base-TX copper Ethernet to 100Base-FX fiber optic signals over a single strand of single-mode fiber . It is used by network engineers and system integrators to extend Ethernet networks over distances up to 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) without the need for installing a second fiber cable .
This converter solves connectivity challenges by enabling building-to-building links and connecting remote workgroups to a central network . Its key technical feature is WDM technology, which allows simultaneous data transmission and reception on separate wavelengths (RX 1550nm, TX 1310nm) over a single fiber strand, effectively doubling the capacity of existing fiber or allowing the use of cheaper simplex cables .
Deployment is versatile; the unit can be used as a standalone desktop or wall-mount device, or it can be installed into a 14-slot media converter chassis (model 507356) for high-density applications . It is fully transparent to the network and supports jumbo frames up to 1.6 KBytes . It is NOT suitable for use with multi-mode fiber and must be paired with a matching WDM converter (model 510530) at the other end of the fiber link, as they use different transmit/receive wavelengths .
