StarTech ST1218T – 8-Port VGA Over Cat5 Extender (Transmitter Only)
Overview :
The StarTech ST1218T is a professional-grade VGA signal distribution solution designed to broadcast a single video source to eight remote locations. It solves the challenge of long-distance video distribution by converting a standard VGA signal into a format that can be transmitted over inexpensive Cat5 (or better) UTP cabling. This allows for high-quality video transmission up to 600 feet (180 meters) away, far exceeding the limits of traditional VGA cables.
This unit acts as the Transmitter (Local) side of a complete extension system. It features one VGA input and one local VGA output (for a local monitor), along with eight RJ-45 ports to send the signal to remote receivers. The ST1218T is a “Transmitter Only” unit and must be paired with compatible StarTech receivers (such as the ST121R) at each remote display location. It supports resolutions up to 1024×768 at maximum distance and up to 1600×1200 at shorter distances.
Optimized for digital signage, transportation hubs, and large-scale retail environments, the ST1218T is built with a rugged steel chassis and is rack-mountable for clean installation in server rooms or AV closets. It is not recommended for high-definition digital video (HDMI/DisplayPort) nor for environments where the Cat5 cable is interrupted by active network hardware like switches or routers.
