Overview :

The StarTech MCM1110SMLC40 is a high-performance Gigabit Ethernet to fiber media converter designed for ultra-long-distance network extensions. It is utilized by IT infrastructure managers, telecommunications providers, and campus network administrators to connect remote workgroups, buildings, or surveillance equipment across distances that far exceed the 100-meter limitation of standard copper Ethernet cabling.

Technically, the converter transforms a 1000Base-T copper RJ45 signal into a 1000Base-LX single-mode fiber signal. It features a built-in LC duplex connector and operates at a 1310nm wavelength, providing reliable data transmission over single-mode fiber (SMF) for distances up to 40km (24.8 miles). The device supports full-duplex operation and jumbo frames up to 9K, ensuring high-bandwidth throughput for data-intensive applications. It also features Link Fault Pass-through (LFP), a critical diagnostic tool that ensures network administrators are alerted to link failures on either the fiber or copper side by automatically dropping the corresponding link.

Deployment is optimized for both standalone and high-density environments. The converter is housed in a compact, rugged steel enclosure that can be used as a desktop unit or wall-mounted. For large-scale enterprise deployments, it is compatible with the StarTech.com 20-slot 2U Rackmount Chassis (ETCHS2U), allowing for centralized power and management of multiple converters. As a transparent network bridge, it is OS-independent and requires no software or driver installation.
