Overview
The StarTech MCM10GSFP2 is a high-performance 10GbE fiber media converter designed for high-bandwidth data center and enterprise applications. It facilitates the conversion between 10GBase-T copper (RJ45) and 10GBase-R fiber (SFP+), allowing network administrators to extend 10 Gigabit Ethernet segments over long-distance fiber optic backbones that exceed the 100-meter limitation of standard copper cabling.
Equipped with an open SFP+ slot, the converter offers maximum deployment flexibility. It supports any MSA-compliant 10Gbps SFP+ transceiver, enabling the use of multimode or single-mode fiber depending on the required distance and infrastructure. The unit is transparent to network protocols and VLAN tags, ensuring seamless integration into existing Layer 2 or Layer 3 network architectures.
For mission-critical reliability, the MCM10GSFP2 features Link Fault Pass-through (LFP). This function ensures that a link failure on one side of the converter is immediately communicated to the other, preventing “silent” link failures and allowing managed switches to trigger failover protocols.
