APC AP8641 Switched & Metered Rack Power Distribution Unit 200/208V
Overview
The APC AP8641 is a switched and metered‑by‑outlet rack power distribution unit (PDU) intended for high‑density AC power delivery with granular outlet metering and remote control. It is deployed by data center electrical engineers, infrastructure managers, and rack technicians in enterprise and colocation environments where outlet‑level monitoring, remote power cycle control, and energy‑aware load balancing are required. This unit does not provide UPS backup or surge suppression; its core purpose is structured 208 V power distribution with advanced control and visibility.
This model accepts 200/208 V AC input at up to 30 A via a NEMA L6‑30P plug, providing approximately 4.9–5.0 kVA of rack load capacity. It distributes power through 24 total IEC receptacles — 21 IEC 60320 C13 and 3 IEC 60320 C19 — allowing connection of servers, storage arrays, switches, and other rack equipment requiring 208 V feeds. Integrated per‑outlet metering provides individual real‑time visibility into current, voltage, and power usage, supporting capacity planning and energy management.
In addition to metering, the AP8641 offers switching controls at the outlet level, enabling remote power on/off functions for rebooting or de‑energizing specific connected equipment without physical access. The device supports power sequencing delays and user‑defined alarm thresholds to reduce the risk of overloads during power recovery operations. Management interfaces include secure Web, SNMP, and Telnet protocols for remote access and integration with centralized infrastructure management platforms.
The unit employs a zero‑U vertical rackmount form factor, mounting along the rack frame to preserve horizontal rack space for active equipment. This compact design is suited for dense server racks, telecom closets, and data center rows where serviceability, remote control, and load visibility are priorities.
This PDU is not intended for single‑phase 120 V environments without appropriate upstream transformers, nor does it function as a UPS or provide inherent power backup. It should be installed where qualified 200/208 V infrastructure exists and where advanced monitoring or outlet control adds operational value.
