Overview :

The APC SMX1500RMI2U is a line-interactive uninterruptible power supply designed to provide regulated 230V power and battery backup for rack-mounted IT infrastructure. It is typically deployed by network engineers and infrastructure teams protecting servers, storage arrays, routers, and switching equipment where electrical stability is required to maintain uptime. The UPS delivers conditioned sine-wave power while maintaining battery backup capability during outages, allowing systems to continue operating briefly or perform controlled shutdown procedures.

The unit provides a rated capacity of 1500VA / 1200W and operates within a single-phase 230V electrical ecosystem. It connects to upstream power using an IEC C14 input connector and distributes power through eight IEC C13 battery-backed outlets, enabling multiple rack devices to be protected within the same UPS. Automatic voltage regulation compensates for under-voltage and over-voltage conditions without switching to battery power, preserving battery capacity for actual outages.

The chassis is a rack/tower convertible platform occupying 2U of rack space in a standard 19-inch cabinet. This allows flexible deployment across branch server racks, IDF cabinets, and edge infrastructure environments where rack space is limited but battery protection remains necessary. A typical deployment places the UPS at the base of a network rack supporting virtualization hosts, firewall appliances, and switching infrastructure. During a utility outage, the UPS provides several minutes of runtime—typically around five minutes at full load—allowing automation systems or shutdown software to preserve data and safely power down equipment.

This UPS is not intended for high-density compute racks exceeding its 1200W capacity or environments using 120V or 208V power distribution systems. Larger racks or higher-power server clusters typically require higher-capacity rack UPS systems designed for multi-kilowatt loads.
