The SFP10GBTST is a high-performance SFP+ copper transceiver module designed to deliver 10Gbps Ethernet connectivity over standard Cat6a or Cat7 copper cabling. It provides a cost-effective solution for data center managers and network engineers who need to bridge SFP+ equipped switches or servers with existing RJ45 infrastructure without the need for specialized fiber optic cabling.
Technically, the module supports the 10GBASE-T standard as defined in IEEE 802.3an, offering a maximum reach of 30 meters (98 feet) at 10Gbps speeds. For lower speed requirements, the transceiver is backwards compatible with 1Gbps and 100Mbps networks. It is hot-swappable, allowing for seamless upgrades and maintenance without powering down the network equipment. This module is programmed and tested for 100% compatibility with StarTech and MSA-compliant networking hardware.
Due to the power density required for 10Gbps copper transmission, this module features a slightly higher power consumption profile (up to 2.3W) compared to fiber SFP+ modules. It is engineered with a rugged zinc alloy housing for enhanced EMI protection and thermal dissipation. It is optimized for short-haul server-to-switch connections and high-speed uplinks within a single rack or adjacent racks.
