The TRENDnet TEG-MGBS40D5 is a Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) optical transceiver designed for reliable, long-distance fiber optic connectivity. This module is engineered for Gigabit Ethernet applications within service provider networks, data centers, and enterprise LAN environments. It addresses the need to extend network distances far beyond the limitations of traditional copper cabling by utilizing single-mode fiber infrastructure. At its core, the TEG-MGBS40D5 is a bi-directional (BiDi) transceiver, which allows it to transmit and receive data over a single fiber strand, effectively doubling the capacity of existing fiber infrastructure without the cost of laying new cable. It uses Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology, transmitting at a 1550nm wavelength and receiving at a 1310nm wavelength. This module must be paired with a corresponding unit, such as the TEG-MGBS40D3, that transmits and receives on the opposite wavelengths to complete the link. Designed for operational simplicity and compatibility, this hot-pluggable module can be installed or swapped in network devices without powering them down. Its compliance with the SFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) ensures it functions correctly in any MSA-compliant switch or fiber converter SFP slot. The rugged metal enclosure is specifically designed for low electromagnetic interference (EMI), ensuring signal integrity in dense hardware environments.
