Overview:

The Opengear OM2248 is a high-density enterprise-grade console server from the OM2200 series, designed to deliver secure out-of-band (OOB) management and automation for large-scale IT infrastructures . It is utilized by network engineers and data center operations teams requiring resilient, remote access to critical infrastructure like routers, switches, and firewalls .

This appliance solves the challenge of maintaining a dedicated, secure management plane during primary network outages. Technical capabilities are anchored by an AMD GX-412TC 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 64 GB M.2 SSD, supporting advanced automation via Docker, Python, and Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) . It features 48 software-selectable RJ45 RS-232 console ports and dual 1GbE SFP uplinks for flexible management network connectivity . Security is built-in with TPM 2.0, secure boot, and an embedded firewall .

Deployment is in a 1U rack-mountable form factor with redundant dual AC power supplies and passive cooling . This model (without suffix) is the base variant with dual AC power and no cellular modem. It is not suitable for environments requiring DC power (models with “-DDC”), cellular failover (models with “-L”), or 10 GbE uplinks (models with “-10G”).
