Overview:
The Opengear OM1208-8E-L is a compact NetOps console server from the OM1200 series, combining a Smart Out-of-Band (SmartOOB™) console server with the flexibility of NetOps automation . It is designed for secure edge deployments, providing resilient remote management for branch offices, retail sites, and other distributed IT environments .
Network engineers use this appliance to maintain secure access to critical infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls) during primary network outages. Technical capabilities include an AMD GX-412TC 1.4 GHz quad-core x86 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of mSATA SSD storage . The unit features eight RS-232 RJ45 serial ports, eight integrated Gigabit Ethernet switch ports, two combo Gigabit Ethernet/SFP uplink ports, and a global LTE-A (CAT12) modem for failover connectivity .
Deployment is in a compact 1U half-rack form factor, suitable for space-constrained edge locations . The platform supports Docker containers, Python, and other automation tools for streamlined network operations . This appliance is not suitable for non-networked serial device management or environments requiring AC power input without the included external power adapter.
